The General Data Protection Regulation or GDPR is a European Union Legislation that is comparatively new in the market. The aim of it is to protect the personal data of all European citizens. All EU businesses, organizations and charities are taken into consideration while protecting the EU residents. From the month of May 2018, all bodies who were seen disobeying the strict new data handling rules were subjected to fines.

  • Easy and understandable information

Online gambling websites must be transparent and clear regarding the customer data they want to hold. The option of removal of the same data if required must also be available. But NonStopCasino list features no verification casino sites that do not use your personal data.

Need For Data Transparency

Being transparent with all the customers from both ends is the new rule. It is done to provide trustworthiness from the person handling the data and the data handling. People signing up for a new service must also undergo and understand the process of sharing their own data and feel comfortable about it.

Online gambling has the same principles where customers provide personal information like age, location, payment details etc. The online operators hold this information because of player protection and avoiding fraudulence. It also requires personal information for marketing emails and deals. All gambling platforms are aware of the data protection policies and KYC checks for their customers.

Claiming Back Personal Data

Players are now much better informed about the handling of personal data and give consent regarding the same. They have equal rights when they prefer withdrawing their personal information off the platform.

The updated regulations also allow them to see a copy of the data the company holds on them and can also ask for full details of the data stored. Empowering data subjects is the entire concept and providing rights to the players so that they can obtain their data from the controller or operator whenever necessary without paying any charges.

Another empowering feature is the ‘right to be forgotten’ where a player can ask to remove all the data the company holds on them if they wish to be removed from the database. This is a reassuring factor for the players who want to part ways with companies due to personal reasons.

Practical Implications

GDPR summary states that the law establishes obligations for the businesses in order to strengthen customer rights. Businesses must update their data protection programme and some to-dos would include:

Informing the citizens about the activities in a transparent manner: The customers whose personal data is saved or processed must be informed via Privacy Notices and policies on their websites.

Assignment of A Data protection officer or DPO: A DPO should hold the responsibility of working as the main operator and providing expert opinions on an organisation’s private work.

Managing citizen rights: The data subject holds all rights to access its personal data and is corrected in case of any errors. One must act quickly in case a data subject contacts for exercising their rights under the GDPR.

Maintaining a data inventory: Each controller and processor must hold a record of the information on the data usage of customers.

Setting up processes for management of data breach: If a business is subject to a data breach such as destruction, loss or unauthorized access, one must take the necessary steps to minimize risks and it must be done within a 72-hour time frame.

Conclusion

GDPR has been imposed for both the company’s and player’s benefit and it does not affect the overall fun a person has while gambling. The transparency came as a surprise initially after it was launched but over time, it is no longer a norm but a normal process. People who do not want to share any personal

Information from being used for marketing purposes might lack access to lucrative deals and offers but it is entirely a personal choice. However, customers who share information with the companies are assured that their data will be protected and looked after more carefully and shall not fall into the wrong hands. This increases customer satisfaction and trust and offers a better online gambling experience overall.
