does ai humanizer actually work on turnitin or is it just placebo?
ran my essay through a humanizer, score went from 82% to 61%. that feels like a lot but also like not enough. is that a real result or am i just fooling myself into thinking it worked.
a 21 point reduction is a real result, not placebo. the statistical properties of the text actually changed. whether 61% still triggers whatever threshold your institution uses is a separate question.
the threshold question is the important one. some institutions act on anything above 50%, some above 80%, some don’t use the score as a trigger at all. knowing which applies to you matters more than the absolute number.
also worth knowing that turnitin’s own documentation says the score has a margin of error and should not be used as sole evidence. a score of 61% is not a verdict, it’s a signal.
i ran the same test and got similar results on a basic humanizer. then i tried Walter Writes on the same source text and got it down to 34%. same content, different tool. the delta between tools is real and larger than i expected.
the 61% result you have is a starting point, not a final answer. whether you need to go further depends on context, but the fact that it moved at all tells you the tool is doing something real.
