# Is GPTZero as accurate as Turnitin?

Is GPTZero as accurate as Turnitin? That is the plain question. My school only licenses the plagiarism similarity side of Turnitin, not the AI indicator, and a colleague suggested the free GPTZero as a stand-in.

I teach tenth grade history, and I worry far more about wrongly accusing a kid than about missing one. I have read both vendors saying they are accurate, and both also say their results should not be used to punish anyone, which makes me trust neither claim completely.

Has anyone seen a fair side by side comparison, or at least a clear account of what each one actually claims? I do not need a winner so much as an honest picture of how much weight a score deserves.

Any head to head depends entirely on the test set. A detector looks great on text that resembles its training data and worse on text that does not, so two vendors can each report strong numbers on their own data and still disagree on yours. Without a shared benchmark, "more accurate" is hard to pin down.
