## Question by Ilya V., 2026-11-01

Is ZeroGPT good at detecting AI, or is it just the free checker everyone pastes text into first? I got curious because I have been playing with small text classifiers for fun, and the accuracy number on the ZeroGPT home page looks too clean to me.

Here is what I did. I took four things I wrote myself years ago (a README, a forum post, a short blog entry and a cover letter) and three paragraphs that I had a chatbot draft for me. ZeroGPT flagged one of my own old pieces fairly hard and scored one of the chatbot paragraphs as mostly human. Three samples is not a study, and I know that, but it was enough to make me wonder what the score actually measures.

So, for people who have used it more than I have: is ZeroGPT good at detecting AI in any sense you would rely on? What would you use it for, and what would you never use it for?

I use it as a quick smell test on freelancer drafts, nothing more. It is fast and the highlighted sentences are handy for spotting boilerplate. But I have seen it flag a human-written product page that was very templated, and I have seen it pass obvious chatbot copy after a light edit. If a client asked me to prove anything with a ZeroGPT screenshot I would say no.
