Twitch has become a source of entertainment for many over the years. Many users log in daily in their Twitch account to watch their favorite streamers. Watching streams on Twitch is best experienced in full screen and theatre mode. Theatre mode is preferred by those who like interacting with the chat while watching the streams, and the full screen mode is preferred by those that are only there to watch the stream.
Sadly, many users that prefer watching Twitch in full screen are unable to do so, as Twitch full screen is not working for them. This is not a big issue and can be fixed with some simple troubleshooting. Here I have discussed the troubleshooting required to fix this issue.
Why Twitch Won’t Fullscreen?
Contents
This issue is quite old and has remained unfixed for the most part. Here are the reasons this can occur for you:
- Extensions: This issue is generally faced by users using the overlay extensions of Twitch. Especially the Better TTV extension that manages chat emojis is known to trigger this issue.
- The Browser you are using: Twitch is not supported in all browsers. If you are using an incompatible browser, then such bugs can arise.
How To Fix The Twitch Fullscreen Not Working Issue?
Now that you know the causes of this issue, it is time to troubleshoot it. Here I have discussed 3 solutions that you can try in order to fix this issue.
Solution 1: Uninstall Twitch Extensions (Better TTV)
The first thing you must do is disable or uninstall the Twitch extension overlays installed in your account. Especially the Better TTV extension (Better Twitch TV) that manages emojis is particularly known to instigate this issue. If you are using the TTV extension, follow the steps given below to uninstall it.
- Open Twitch and log in to your account.
- Click on the profile icon and open the creator dashboard.
- Select the Hamburger icon on the upper left corner of the screen and click on the Extensions option.
- Click on My Extensions to see the installed extensions on your Twitch account.
- Locate the Better TTV extension in the activated section and click on the downward arrow.
- Select the Uninstall option and confirm it in the pop-up prompt.
After you have uninstalled the BTTV extension, you should be able to watch the videos full screen without any issue. However, if the issue persists, try disabling all the other installed extensions also.
Solution 2: Use The Theatre Mode Work Around
The theatre mode in Twitch expands the stream to the entirety of the Twitch display while keeping the Chat running on the right side. This is not the same as full screen, but it allows the user to have a similar experience while interacting with the chat. Both the Theatre Mode and Full screen mode have two different icons located on the bottom right side of the video.
One workaround that has worked for many when Twitch doesn’t go full screen is to click on the Theatre mode icon and then double click on the video playing on your screen. Keep in mind to not click on the Full screen icon. This will make Twitch go full screen without any issue.
Solution 3: Use Another Browser
Another likely cause of this issue is incompatible browsers. If you are using one of the lesser-known browsers like Speed browser for playing Twitch, then there is a big chance it won’t even open. Even if it does, then bugs such as this should be common.
Try using another browser, preferable the known browsers such as Chrome, Firefox, Edge and see if the issue persists.
