Enable Windows Mouse Keys

How to use keyboard instead of mouse? You can use the mouse keys of your keyboard to control the mouse pointer.

Mouse keys are those keys in your keyboard that can be used to move the cursor on your screen and use it as a mouse. However, these keys won’t work if they are not enabled.

To enable them in Windows 10, you can use 2 methods. Now, we have assumed that you are unable to use your mouse as you want to use your keyboard as a mouse. That’s why the steps given below can be done using your keyboard only.

Method 1: Use Keyboard Shortcut

The easiest method to enable Windows mouse keys is by using the keyboard shortcut key. To do it follow the steps given below:

  1. Press the Left Alt + Left Shift + Num Lock keys. This should open a dialog box asking whether you want to enable mouse keys or not.

However, there is a possibility that this shortcut may not work for you. If it doesn’t work, then it means that this shortcut is disabled. Don’t worry as there is another way you can enable mouse keys.

Method 2: Enable From Ease Of Access

If the shortcut doesn’t work, then you can also enable it from the Ease of Access menu in the Settings app. This method is more time consuming when using only the keyboard. But that shouldn’t be a big issue.

To do it, follow the steps given below:

  1. Press the Windows key and type Ease of Access mouse settings in the search bar.
    Select the appropriate option.
  2. The toggle to enable mouse keys should be on your screen. Keep pressing the Tab key until the toggle is selected.
  3. Press the Space Bar key to enable the toggle. Further options on mouse keys will show up on your screen.

Now you can change the settings of the mouse key also. Options like pointer speed and acceleration, using mouse keys only when Num lock is on, or to use the Ctrl and Shift keys to speed up or slow down the pointer should be available.

You can use the tab key here also to jump from one option to another and use the Spacebar key to enable or disable options. Finally, press Alt + F4 to exit the Settings app.

You can also use another way to open the Ease of Access menu. To do it, follow the steps given below:

  1. Press the Windows + R keys to open the Run utility.
  2. Type ms-settings: exactly, including the colon (:), and press Enter. The Settings app will open on your screen.
