Here’s what I found after trying eight of them across YouTube, Vimeo, and a few other platforms.
What Makes a Good Online Video Downloader
A few things matter: speed, supported formats, whether it requires you to install anything, and how aggressive the ads are. Some of these tools are basically ad mazes where the actual download button is hidden behind three fake ones.
My Picks
1. Y2Mate – Works fast, handles most major platforms, gives you MP4 and MP3 options. Ads are annoying but not unusable.
2. SaveFrom.net – Clean interface, decent speed. Slightly better than Y2Mate on ad density. Doesn’t always catch Vimeo.
3. ClipConverter – Older tool but still works. Good for format conversion if you need something specific like MKV.
4. 9xbuddy – Surprised me. Clean, fast, works on Reddit and Facebook too. Legit option.
5. Keepvid – Hit or miss lately. Worked for me on YouTube but missed a few Vimeo downloads.
6. OnlineVideoConverter – Solid for format conversion. Slower than others but reliable.
7. VideoFk – Not as well known. Works fine, less ad clutter.
8. Loader.to – Good for batch downloads if you’ve got multiple URLs. Supports playlists.
Worth Noting
None of these work consistently with DRM-protected content, and some stop supporting YouTube periodically because of ToS enforcement. If you need something more permanent, a desktop tool might be more reliable long-term.
Curious if anyone’s had different results, especially with the less mainstream sites.
