How to Disable the 'Slow Charging' Notification on Android

The “Slow charging” or “Charging slowly” notification on Android appears when your phone detects it’s charging at a lower rate than expected. It’s a useful alert in some situations but annoying if you’re intentionally using a low-power charger or charging from a USB port. Here’s how to deal with it.

Why the notification appears

Android monitors charging current and compares it to what the charger and phone can handle. The notification triggers when:

  • You’re using a charger rated lower than the phone’s fast-charge capability
  • You’re charging from a PC USB port (typically 500mA-900mA, much lower than a wall charger)
  • The cable or charger has a fault or isn’t making full contact
  • You’re using a third-party cable that only supports charging, not data (some cheap cables have thin power wires that limit current)
  • The charging port has debris in it limiting contact

Before disabling it: check if there’s an actual problem

If you’re using the original charger and cable that came with the phone and getting the slow charging notification, that’s worth investigating before disabling the alert. Try a different cable first – cable quality is frequently the culprit. A cable with thin or damaged internal wires will charge slowly even with a fast charger.

Also check the charging port for lint or debris. Compressed air or a toothpick can clear obstructions that cause poor contact.

Disabling the notification

If you’re satisfied the hardware is fine and you just want the notification gone:

Samsung devices:
Settings > Notifications > Advanced settings > look for “Charging” or “Battery” notifications. Some Samsung models have a specific toggle for the slow charging notification here.

Alternatively: Settings > Battery and device care > Battery > More battery settings – look for charging notification options.

General Android (stock/Pixel):
Settings > Apps > See all apps > scroll to “Android System” or look under system settings > Notifications > find the charging notification channel and disable it.

Using notification settings directly:
When the slow charging notification appears, long-press on it. This usually gives you the option to “Turn off notifications” for that specific notification channel, which silences future alerts of that type without affecting other notifications.

Developer Options method:
If the above doesn’t work, enabling Developer Options (Settings > About phone > tap Build number 7 times) unlocks additional notification controls. This varies by manufacturer.

Note

Disabling the notification doesn’t fix slow charging – it just stops alerting you to it. If fast charging speed matters to you, use the proper high-wattage charger and a quality USB-C cable rated for the appropriate current.
