windows firewall keeps sending notifications and i want to turn them off. they’re not about active threats, just informational alerts about blocked apps and network changes.

turn off action center notifications: settings > system > notifications & actions > scroll to “Windows Security” > toggle off. or expand it and selectively disable firewall-specific notifications. this stops the toast notifications that pop up in the corner.
turn off notifications within windows security itself: windows security app > firewall & network protection > scroll to notification settings. you can turn off notifications about network changes and blocked app alerts separately.
the important distinction: disabling these notifications doesn’t affect the firewall’s behavior. it continues blocking and allowing traffic based on your rules. you just stop getting notified about what it’s doing.
if a specific app keeps triggering blocked app notifications: rather than muting all notifications, you can create a firewall rule for that app. windows security > firewall & network protection > allow an app through firewall > change settings > allow the specific app. after that, the notification won’t recur for that app.
on managed/work PCs: if you’re on a domain, group policy may control firewall notification settings and your local changes won’t stick. that would require changes at the IT/policy level.
The system tray icon behavior versus the notification popup behavior being separate things is worth clarifying. The shield icon in the tray can be hidden without disabling notifications, and notifications can be turned off without hiding the icon. They’re controlled independently in different settings locations.
