Disney Plus full screen behavior varies by device and browser. Here’s how to get true full screen on each platform.
On a computer browser
Keyboard shortcut: Press F while a video is playing to toggle full screen. This is the fastest method and works in most browsers.
Mouse: Double-click the video to toggle full screen. Or hover over the bottom of the video to reveal the player controls and click the full screen icon (the expanding arrows in the bottom right corner).
F11 vs player full screen: Pressing F11 puts the browser itself in full screen (hides the browser chrome) but the video may still show in a window. Use the player’s own full screen button or the F key for true video full screen within the browser.
If black bars appear on the sides or top/bottom of the video: this is intentional for content filmed in different aspect ratios. Disney+ doesn’t crop content to fill the screen – it letterboxes or pillarboxes to maintain the original aspect ratio. There’s no setting to change this.
On Windows app
The Disney+ Windows app has the same controls – F key or double-click for full screen. The app sometimes handles full screen more smoothly than the browser version on certain hardware configurations.
On Smart TV
Most Smart TV remotes have a dedicated full screen or zoom button. If not, look in the Disney+ playback controls (press OK or Enter while playing) for a display or zoom option. On Samsung TVs, pressing the up arrow during playback reveals more controls.
On iPhone/iPad
Tap the video once to reveal controls, then tap the full screen icon (expanding arrows). On iPad, Disney+ supports Picture-in-Picture – swipe up or press home while in full screen to keep the video playing in a floating window.
On Android
Tap the video to reveal controls > tap the full screen icon. Some Android devices also support rotating the phone to landscape to automatically trigger full screen.
Troubleshooting black borders
If you have thick black borders that seem wrong for the content: check your TV’s picture settings. Some TVs add their own overscan or zoom settings that affect streaming apps. Look for Picture Size or Screen Fit settings and set them to “Fit to Screen” or equivalent.
