Epic Games Launcher Not Working -- Common Fixes That Actually Help

Epic Games Launcher decided to just not open this morning. no error message. click it, nothing happens. or sometimes it starts to load then closes immediately.

tried restarting already. on Windows 11. anybody had this and actually fixed it?

the webcache fix is the one that worked for me. never would’ve found it myself – it’s not documented anywhere obvious. problem appeared after an Epic update, clearing that folder fixed it in under a minute.

Epic Launcher silently failing to open is a specific flavor of annoying. Here’s a reliable fix sequence.

Step 1: Kill all Epic processes

Open Task Manager and look for EpicGamesLauncher.exe, EpicWebHelper.exe, and any EOSSDK processes. End Task on all of them. Sometimes a background process is hanging and blocking a new instance.

Step 2: Run as administrator

Right-click the Epic Games Launcher shortcut > Run as administrator. Some systems need elevated permissions after updates.

Step 3: Clear the webcache

Navigate to your AppData > Local > EpicGamesLauncher > Saved folder and delete the webcache folder. This clears cached data that sometimes causes launch failures after updates. Relaunch.

Step 4: Check antivirus

Windows Defender and third-party AV can silently block Epic Launcher components. Add the Epic Games install folder to your exclusions list.

Step 5: Reinstall the launcher

The Epic Launcher and your games are stored separately. Uninstalling and reinstalling the launcher does NOT delete your games. Your library stays intact.

Step 6: Check Visual C++ redistributables

Epic Launcher requires specific Visual C++ and DirectX versions. If these are corrupt, the launcher silently fails. Run Windows Update or manually download Visual C++ Redistributables 2015-2022.

Check the launcher logs in AppData > Local > EpicGamesLauncher > Saved > Logs if nothing else works.
