Privacy policy: what DigiCruncher stores and why
This policy explains what the DigiCruncher forum at digicruncher.com stores about you, why, and what you can do about it. It is written to be read, and it is meant to be complete. If anything here is unclear, email hello@digicruncher.com.
If you only read
If you only read threads, the forum does not ask you for anything. We do not run advertising trackers, we do not use advertising networks, and we do not build a profile of you or follow you to other sites. Like any website, the service that delivers pages keeps short technical logs, described below.
What we store if you create an account
To post, you create an account. We store:
- Your email address. It is used to confirm the account, to let you sign in and recover access, and to send you messages you have asked for, such as a notification when someone replies to your thread. It is not shown to other members.
- Your display name and any profile details you choose to add. These are public.
- Your posts. Threads, replies, edits and the time they were made, along with the section and any tags. Posts in public sections are visible to anyone.
- Account settings, such as your notification preferences.
We do not ask for your real name, phone number, date of birth or payment details, and we do not sell anything to members.
The cookie we set
When you sign in, the forum sets a session cookie. It keeps you signed in so you can post. It is needed for the service to work, it contains a signed identifier and not a record of your browsing, and it is not used for advertising. Readers who do not sign in do not need it. Because we set no optional cookies, there is nothing to switch on or off.
Server logs and Cloudflare
The forum is delivered through Cloudflare, which sits between your browser and our servers to serve pages quickly and to block abuse. As with most sites, request information such as your IP address, the page requested, the time and your browser type passes through that service and appears in technical logs. We use this to keep the forum running, to diagnose faults and to stop spam and attacks. We do not use these logs to identify readers or to track you across sites. Cloudflare processes this data under its own terms and privacy policy, and your request may be handled on servers outside your country.
We send email to confirm your account, to reset a password and to deliver notifications you have chosen. Messages go through a mail delivery service that handles the address and message on our behalf. We do not send marketing newsletters to your account address unless you have clearly asked for them.
Links to tools
Some links to tools in threads carry tracking parameters so we can see which threads people find useful. The parameters describe the forum and the thread. They do not contain your name or email address. Once you follow a link you are on the other site, which has its own privacy policy and may set its own cookies. We do not control it.
Why we use your information
We use your information to run the forum: to let you sign in and post, to send the messages you asked for, to keep the community safe from spam and abuse, to fix faults, and to meet legal obligations. We rely on the need to provide the service you asked for, on our legitimate interest in keeping it secure, and on your consent where we ask for it. We do not sell your information, and we do not use it to train AI models.
Who else sees it
Only the services needed to run the forum handle your data: the hosting and delivery provider, the email delivery service and tools that keep the forum secure. They act on our instructions. We may disclose information if the law requires it or to protect the forum and its members from serious harm.
How long we keep it
Account details are kept while your account exists. Posts stay as long as the thread does, unless removed. Server logs are kept for a short operational period and then discarded. If you ask us to delete your account, we remove or anonymize your personal details, subject to the points below.
Your choices and how to request deletion
You can ask us to see what we hold about you, to correct it, to delete your account and personal information, or to stop sending you email. Email hello@digicruncher.com with the subject "Data request" from the address on your account, so we can confirm it is you. We will respond without unnecessary delay.
When we delete an account, posts you made in a thread may be kept so that conversations still make sense, with your name replaced by a neutral label. If you want a specific post removed because it contains personal information, say which one and we will review it. Depending on where you live, you may have further rights under data protection law, including the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Please do not post sensitive data
Posts are public. Do not post passwords, client documents, medical or financial information, or other people's personal details. Our guidelines cover this.
Children
The forum is not meant for children under 16. If you believe a child has created an account, tell us and we will remove it.
Changes
If we change this policy, we update the date at the top. We will not use your information in a materially different way without telling members first.
