Is AI humanizer software legit, and when is it okay to use?

Short answer

Is AI humanizer software legit, and when is it okay to use? I write a weekly newsletter and I am fiercely protective of my voice. Lately my feed is full of ads for tools that promise to "humanize" AI text, and a fellow newsletter writer told me she runs all her drafts through one.

My own workflow is simple. I brainstorm angles and headlines with a chatbot, then I write every paragraph myself. Sometimes I paste a finished paragraph back in to ask for a tighter version, and I rewrite whatever it gives me. I have never published a sentence I did not edit. Still, those ads made me wonder if I am missing something, or whether using a humanizer is a form of cheating even for a newsletter.

So what are these tools actually, are they legitimate, and are there situations where it is fine to use one? I would also like to know whether they can hurt my voice, because that is the one thing I will not trade away.
